The Uganda Police Force has revealed a significant drop in crimes from 218,715 cases recorded in 2024 to 196,405 recored in 2025, indicating a 10.2 per cent decline in crimes across the country.
According to the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba who released the report, the drop in crime is attributed structural reforms and operational enhancements within the force, from command, technology, and community policing.
While reading out the report, the Criminal Investigations Director, AIGP Tom Magambo revealed that assault cases reduced by 10.8% from 29580 in 2024 to 26,366 in 2025 while sex related offence reduced from 14,425 to 12,606 , a 12.6% reduction while domestic violence cases dropped by 12.2% from 14,073 to 12,361 cases.
AIGP Magambo noted that economic and corruption related cases dropped by 12.1% from 13,132 to 11,548 while break-ins reduced from 13,511 to 11818 while cases of threatening violence also dropped.
However, the although the report notes notable reduction in overall crime, concerns remain remain around prosecution and road safety.
