The World Half marathon record holder, Jacob Kiplimo has won the 2025 Chicago Marathon in a time of 2.02.23, becoming the first Ugandan to win a World Marathon Major.
Kiplimo beat off competition from more than 50,000 runners including some of the best in the World to win the marathon on Sunday.
The marathon was Kiplimo’s second event, having finished second on his debut in London in April last year.
Just after halfway, Jacob Kiplimo made his move on the defending Chicago champ John Korir to run completely with a 12 second lead built between 25k and 30k.
Kiplimo managed to keep the lead and outpacing over 53,000 runners to finish win the race.
Kenyans Amos Kipruto was second in 2:03:54 and Alex Masai came third in 2:04:37.
Kiplimo wins $100,000 (UGX 342 million) for the win, Kipruto earns $75,000 ( UGX 256 million) for second, and Masai, $50,000 (UGX 171 million) for third.
