The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Presidential CEO Forum, Ms Irene Birungi Mugisha has revealed that the second edition of the Presidential CEO Run is set to improve the welfare of learners with special needs at the Entebbe Children’s Welfare Primary School.
“I always believe that the CEO’s do not just stop at having the purpose of making profit or performance of the different institutions and enterprises, but also, we go beyond that by being purposed to add value to the lives that we know, that complement this country in one way or another” she said.
Ms Birungi made the remarks while addressing journalists at the launch of the second edition of the 5km Presidential CEO run slated for August 16th, themed “Saving a Life, Changing a Future” at the Entebbe Municipal Council offices on Friday.
“The Second Presidential CEO Run seeks to harness the collective power of Uganda’s private sector and development partners to improve the welfare, education, and future prospects of vulnerable children” she said.
She noted that the drive will be a continuous engagement with the school to ensure that the children’s care is enhanced.
“We’ve seen how much those children need in terms of support, they need more room in terms of accommodation, classrooms, play area and also room to make their own crafts. It won’t only stop on the 16th, it will be an open door where we’ll even encourage CEO’s to come and give a visit to the school and put that brick that we know we have made the change” she said.
The Entebbe Mayor Mr Fabrice Rulinda said the run will enhance the transformation of the children’s lives through improving on their learning environments, and creating opportunities for a brighter future.
“The school is very dear to my heart and I hope that everybody can put all hands on deck to ensure that this is a success. This is a noble cause, the run that the CEO is putting together is not for profit, we’re giving it all to a very noble cause” he said.
Dr Brenda Tibamwenda, who represented the Board chairperson Mr Emmanuel katongole reaffirmed it’s commitment to promoting inclusive national development through strategic partnerships between the private sector and communities.
“The Presidential CEO Run is a demonstration that true leadership goes beyond business performance. It is about using our influence, resources, and collective responsibility to transform lives. Every step we take together is an investment in giving vulnerable children hope, dignity, and a brighter future” she said.
The head teacher Entebbe Children’s Welfare Primary School, Ms Alice Basaaza said the school currently handles over 200 children with different special needs including autism, down syndrome, epilepsy, deaf and children with Spina bifida among others.
The Tembo Steels (U) Ltd Corporate Affairs Manager, Owomugisha Blessing Immaculate revealed that the company will not only sponsor the run but also help advocate support and mobilise masses to ensure that everyone understands the importance of supporting children with special needs.
“We joined forces with the CEO Forum to have this run because we believe in amazing causes. We’ve supported quite a number of causes in the community, and for us, impacting communities is at the heart of Tembo Steels, as we do industrialisation, employ people, we are also able to give back to the community” she said.
Other sponsors of the marathon whose official running kits goes for Ugx 35,000, include Middle East Restaurant, Coco Beach Club Entebbe and Wellness Tribe Entebbe.
