Security forces have arrested the former Deputy CDF Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, in Soroti City who has been on the run over alleged treachery and criminality.
The UPDF Acting Spokesperson Col Chris Magezi, confirmed Elwelu’s arrest in a post on his X account.
“Elwelu has been on the run over involvement in subversive activities and plans to destabilize Teso” he said.
He noted that security forces recently recovered 15 guns in his possession, military fatigues, and two pickup trucks.
Col Magezi revealed that Elwelu will be charged and prosecuted in the courts of law accordingly.
Elwelu’s arrest follows directives from the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who recently warned anybody against aiding Elwelu.
“In our continuing operation to dismantle Private Elweru’s treachery and criminality. We have seized more guns and ammunition he had stashed away in different places. We have also arrested his driver and seized the last vehicle he was using” he said.
He added, “Anyone who aids this fugitive in any way will face serious consequences. Otherwise, I thank all our supporters in Teso for all the information they are giving us” he said.
