The City Hall magistrate’s court has remanded disgraced Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Deputy Zonal Commander, Asp Clive Nsiima Barigye to Luzira Prison over assaulting a female supermarket attendant at Shell Kyanja.
Nsiima who was arrested by the police after the viral video of him assaulting the supermarket caused a public out roar was arraigned before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu, who charged him with assault and malicious damage.
Court heard that Nsiima assaulted the attendant after she reminded him to pay for two cans of beer and a pack of condoms as he attempted to drive off with a female companion from the supermarket.
Prosecution alleges that on October 7, 2025, Nsiima assaulted Ms Pellan Atuhumuriize, a cashier at the station, and damaged her Infinix Hot 10 mobile phone during a confrontation over an unpaid bill of UGX 30,000.
Nsiima has pleaded not guilty to both charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
His lawyer, Hamaza Kyamanywa, asked court to release his client on bail noting that the two parties had reached a reconciliation.
However state attorney, Mercy Yamangusho asked court to reject the bail application, warning that doing so would lead to a wider public anger.
“The accused is a police officer whose duty is to protect the public, especially women. Instead, he chose to assault one,” she fumed.
“This is impunity of the highest order! The public is bitter — court must send a message” she said.
