The Uganda Electoral Commission has finally released the long awaited dates for the Local administrative Chairpersons and women councillors across the country.
While addressing media on Monday, the chairperson of the commission, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the elections will proceed following the timely provision of necessary funding by the government.
Justice Byabakama revealed that the EC set Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as the polling day for LCI & II Chairpersons elections across Uganda.
He further noted that the Elections for the women council elections will take place on July 23rd across the country.
Justice Byabakama asserted that the voting will be conducted across 71,214 villages nationwide featuring an open queue system, with voters lining up behind their preferred candidates of choice or candidates’ portraits.
According to the commission, under phase one, there will be a five day voter registration from July 6th – 10th, followed by a register display from July 13th to 14th at all designated public spaces.
Phase two, will see the elections for the village women committees from July 15th to 23rd, with nominations slated from July 15th to 19th at Sub-County, Town, or Municipal Division Headquarters.
Campaigns will take place thereafter from the 20th with polling date set for July 23rd, the commission noted that the lower structures will form the basis of the broader Women Councils hierarchy, escalating progressively from the Parish level up to a National Conference slated for September 3rd – 4th, 2026.
Phase three of the roadmap will see the elections of the Village Local Council elections from July 15th –28th, with nominations set for July 15th to 19th, there will then be an eight day campaign period from July 20th to July 27th, with polling date set for July 28th.
Phase four will include the Parish Local Council II elections from July 29th to August 10th, during which the newly elected Village Executive Committees will form the electoral colleges.
There will be a compilation of the Parish/Ward Voters’ register on July 29th, followed by a display of the LC II Register and issuance of nomination forms from July 30th to 31st, which will lead to the nomination of candidates for Parish Chairperson on August 3rd, with a six day campaign window from August 4th to 9th, with polling date set on August 10th for LC II Chairperson.
Justice Byabakama, has also urged the public to actively participate in the entire electoral process.
“The Commission calls on all stakeholders to participate in the above activities in accordance with the guidelines for the elections” he said.
