The Lira Magistrates court has charged and remanded National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi’s civilian body guard Jamshid Kavuma with robbery and malicious damage.
Jamshid is one of the more than 100 NUP supporters who were arrested when security forces ambushed and intercepted Bobi Wine’s convoy when it was en route to Bwizibwera in Mbarara on Friday.
He was on Wednesday brought before the Lira court together with Ggaayi Muzamiru who was also arrested in Masaka and added to a list of nine other NUP supporters who have been on remand over the same offences.
The NUP members were arrested on 29th October in Alebtong district during Bobi Wine’s Lango campaign trail.
Prosecution alleges that on October 28, 2025, at Obot Village in Barr Sub-county along the Lira-Alebtong Road, the accused willfully and unlawfully damaged and robbed the occupants of a police vehicle UP 4816 which at the time was using another number plate UBK 380Q.
The items allegedly stolen include a laptop computer, a bag of clothes, and 20 litres of diesel fuel, with a total estimated value of Shs1.89 million.
However following their remand on Wednesday, the head of the NUP legal team Elotu Jonathan expressed dismay at the treatment of the prisoners after Jamshid was found with torture marks allover his body.


“Today I went to Lira for the hearing of the case of our comrades and Jamshid was added to their file. Jamshid was tortured by Police before being produced to court” he said.
The remanded include Lekuru Liberty, Nakabuye Mastulah, Nasozi Hope, Kamulegeye Regan, Saluman Kagawa, Waisua Laston, Ssembusi Precious Paul, Bukenya Isma, Lubega Aloysious, Katamba Steven, Ggaayi Muzamiru and Kavuma Jamshid Twaha
The NUP members have been remanded to Lira case has been adjourned to 24th November for bail application.
