The former Butambala County MP Muwanga Kivumbi, has appeared before the International Crimes Division (ICD) of the High Court alongside 23 others, in the ongoing terrorism case against them.
On Monday, the prosecution which was absent at the beginning of the bail application hearing, since state lawyers where attending to veteran opposition politician, Dr. Kizza Besigye’s treason trial, through a sworn affidavit informed court that investigations into the case were still underway.
According to the affidavit prosecution alleged that Kivumbi and he’s co accused will interfere with state witnesses and jeopardise the judicial process if they are released back into the public.
Earlier during proceedings, through their lawyers, M/S Alaka & Company Advocates and Lukwago & Company Advocates, the suspects argued that they are presumed innocent, have fixed places of residence, strong community ties, and substantial sureties, and that their continued detention amounts to unconstitutional prolonged remand.
According to prosecution, Kivumbi along with others at larger between January 11 and January 17, 2026, Kivumbi, coordinated and carried out a series of violent attacks in Kibibi Town Council and Gombe Town Council in Butambala District.
The terrorism charges against the group are contrary to Section 6(1) (a) and Section 3(o) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, Cap 120.
Hearing of the bail application is still underway at the ICD before Justice Susan Okalany.
