Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with NBA Africa CEO Claire Akamanzi in Kigali to discuss basketball development in Uganda.
The meeting followed earlier talks in Uganda this past March. The discussions included a proposal to work with the Ministry of Education and Sports to set up a Junior NBA League.
The programme would teach basketball skills and also emphasise teamwork, discipline, leadership, and a strong work ethic.
The talks are part of NBA Africa’s wider continental plan to partner with governments and the private sector on sports infrastructure, digital services, creative industries, and hospitality.
Ugandan clubs City Oilers and Namuwongo Blazers have already played in the NBA-affiliated Basketball Africa League.
Meanwhile, UBC and NBS will partner to broadcast NBA games in Uganda starting this September.
