A section of Ugandans living in Boston, USA over the weekend heckled the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace, and The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu during a church service.
According to reports, Archbishop Kaziimba who is on a visit in the USA, was interrupted during his sermon by Ugandans in the congregation who accused him of keeping silent over a number of ongoing issues in the country.
In the video circulating online, the demonstrators who are seen waving Ugandan flags are heard cursing and lamenting at Kaziimba, who remained glued at the pulpit during this whole time.
“Kaziimba Mugalu, you’re a disgrace to Uganda” one woman is heard saying.
“Ononye ki wano? Muli baabi”, “Abantu bali makomeera” loosely translated to “What have you come to do here? Your thieves” “People are rotting away in Jail” another woman is heard screaming over the top of her voice.
Some online reports allege that Kaziimba had asked for financial support towards Church of Uganda from Ugandan’s in the diaspora, who in turn criticised him for taking a silent stand on the happenings in the country, however 360news Ug, couldn’t independently verify these claims.
Recently, Archbishop Kaziimba received public backlash after he alluded to rather preferring keeping silent on the political persecutions and human rights abuses across the country, than speaking out against them, since he had his own life to live and wasn’t looking at becoming a saviour by speaking out against abuses like Janani Luwum, the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda who openly challenged the regime of Idi Amin Dada and was later killed.
“I am a person, I need life also… I have a life to live. I am not a savior. I am not to carry all your problems. You take them to the cross. I do my part and leave them to God,” he said.
Archbishop Kaziimba said during his sermon at the installation of Rev. Canon Michael Mukhwana, as archdeacon at St John’s Church, Makerere University recently.
