Four senior leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP), facing charges including inciting violence to terrorism linked to the 2026 General Election have been denied bail by several courts today and further remanded on their various charges.

The Butambala Magistrate’s Court has further remanded Butambala County MP and NUP Vice President for the Central Region Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi who is facing terrorism charges to Kitalya Prison until March 10, 2026 when the case will come up for mention.

The Butambala Chief Magistrate Deogratius Ssejjemba’s remanded Kivumbi and 24 others he is charged with after state prosecution asked for more time to complete investigations.

The case stems from post-election unrest in Butambala District following the January 2026 General Election, during which security forces reportedly shot several people.

In Gulu, the Chief Magistrates court further remanded NUP’s deputy president for Northern region, Dr Lina Zedriga to Gulu Women’s Prison until February 24th for mention of the inciting violence charges against her after prosecution asked court for more time to verify the bail documents.

According to prosecution, Zedriga committed the offences in December 2025 in Gulu, Amuru and Nwoya districts by inciting National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters to attack members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), charges which she denied.

While the Nakawa Chief Magistrates court has further remanded NUP’s Election Management Committee member John Mary Ssebuwufu, who is also charged with inciting violence until March 3rd, after a court disagreement over ECCMIS document submission.
