Residents of Mayanzi village in Kigungu, Entebbe municipality are in fear of their lives after security operatives allegedly kidnapped an Airport Taxi driver, Peter Mbaziira at his workplace at Entebbe International Airport recently.
According to an eyewitness who preferred anonymity to speak freely, the NRM supporters found Mbaziira a staunch National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter at his home, with his mother and brothers with the car parked outside and they wanted to pin NRM stickers and posters both on the car and his house which he declined during NRM’s door to door campaigns in the area on 11th November.
“They then went aside ad took photos of his house and car and told him, you will see. We thought they were joking but residents around the village said they were going to arrest him, but we believe when he refused them to pin posters at his home and car, they got annoyed and reported him to his bosses at the Airport” the eyewitness said.
The chairperson Entebbe Division B Mr Richard Sekyondo reaffirmed the eyewitness account noting that, Mubiru is said to have been summoned together with his father who also works at Entebbe Airport as a cab driver for a number of days until Monday (24th Nov) when they were summoned and he was held at Entebbe Airport Police.
Sekyondo said that however family and friends have failed to locate Mbaziira whereabouts for over a week now after they were informed that he was to be taken to court for unknown crimes but failed to appear on Thursday.
“We sent a team of leaders to Entebbe Magistrates court on Thursday, upon checking their books he wasn’t included nor was he brought to the court premises, we have checked prisons in the municipality, he is nowhere to be seen, meaning he is being kept at un undisclosed location to date”” he said.
Mr Sekyondo noted that security operatives have compiled a list of National Unity Platform (NUP) members in the area that they intend to apprehend before election dates which has instilled more fear in the residents.
“On Saturday night, UPDF soldiers went to Misooli village, gathered a number of youth and questioned them why they were making political statements on their Tik Tok accounts and cautioned them, yet we thought if anybody is doing wrong they should be summoned during broad day light. We are aware of the existence of safe houses where they torture people, which is scaring people more” he said.
Sekyondo further called on NRM leaders in the municipality and security personnel to provide details on the location of their supporter who was kidnapped by security operatives.
