The National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, has dismissed a story by Next Media Group news outlet Nilepost indicating that he is holding talks with President Museveni’s government to ensure he is allowed to return safely back in the country.

On Wednesday, Bobi took to his X page to dismiss a story titled, “Exclusive: Govt-NUP in Talks Over Bobi Wine’s ‘Dignified and Secure’ Return” that was published online by questioning the media house, how his rights and dignity could be a subject of negotiation.

“How can my rights and dignity be a subject of negotiation? NBS is just a peddler of fake results, fake narratives!” he noted.

Bobie Wine further reiterated that his return to Uganda is a constitutional right and further alleged that the Naguru based media house was simply against him standing against President Museveni in the recent polls.

“My return to my home country is a right and I will soon return to Uganda, and the regime can do whatever they want. Standing against Museveni (and beating him) is only a crime in the eyes of NBS, not in the eyes of the law” said.

According to the media house, there have been quiet intensive negotiations for weeks between the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the Ugandan government to facilitate the safe return of Bobi Wine from the U.S.

The outlet further noted that the talks, which have taken place several times in recent weeks, are understood to include an arrangement under which Bobi Wine would return home without facing any criminal charges related to the disputed January 15, 2026 general elections.

“A key outcome of the negotiations appears to have already materialised, with the complete withdrawal of security forces from Bobi Wine’s Magere residence earlier today” the story read.

It further noted that NUP’s National Treasurer Benjamin Katana, Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, and senior party spokesperson and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi were involved in the talks while Uganda’s Ambassador to the United Nations Adonia Ayebare is said to be involved in the discussions on the government side.

However, while appearing on France 24 in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, Bobi Wine reiterated that he will return to Uganda only as a free citizen and not through any negotiated “begging” for his safety.

“I am still under threat. I am aware that I’m being followed. And, you know, in Uganda history shows that many dissidents have left the country and have been followed and hurt, harmed or even killed from very far away from home,” he said. “However, at least I know that I can communicate with the world” he said.

Last week, Bobi Wine took to his socials to announce that he had left the country after more than two months in hiding following the highly contested January 15th Presidential polls.

In a video shared on his official social media accounts, Bobi Wine revealed that he has travelled to the diaspora for critical engagements and will be back soon to continue with his cause.

Days later, he posted a photo of himself to announce that he had travelled to Washington DC in the U.S to start the international engagements including meetings on Capitol Hill.
