The Uganda Police has dismissed reports online alleging that Field Force Unit (FFU) officer SP Karim Mukiibi has been arrested by the force while allegedly fleeing to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as misleading and false.
According to the forces deputy spokesperson Diana Nandawula, the news of Mukiibi’s arrest that is making rounds online is a propaganda campaign against the forces by individuals she didn’t name.
“Our attention has been drawn to misleading and false propaganda circulating on social media alleging that SP Karim Mukiibi of the Field Force Unit (FFU) has been arrested by the Uganda Police” she said.
Nandawula noted that Mukiibi remains on duty in the FFU where he continues to serve diligently.
“We wish to clarify that SP Mukiibi has not been arrested. He remains on duty and continues to diligently perform his official police responsibilities” she said.
SP Mukiibi made headlines during the recently presidential campaigns when he commanded severe brutality to be meted out to journalists and supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) Flagbearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine during his campaign trail.
