There were moments of tension in Kisaasi, a Kampala Suburb on Tuesday after armed men traveling in a grey Toyota Hiace vehicle infamously known as drones intercepted the National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Secretary General David Rubongoya’s car in an alleged attempt to kidnap him
According to a post on his X, Rubongoya, who wasn’t in the car at the time of the kidnap attempt first noticed UPDF soldiers interest in his car on Monday as he left the NUP Makerere Kavule offices when they took pictures of the car and made frantic phone calls to unknown people.
“Today, heavily armed men moving in a drone followed my vehicle. Around Kisasi, they moved out of the drone and surrounded it. They came hastily and opened the doors. Thankfully, I was not in the vehicle at the time. They searched it and found nothing” he posted.
Rubongoya added, “Disappointed that I wasn’t in, they asked the driver, comrade Norbert Ariho, for my whereabouts and he said he did not know. They drove off. WE ARE NOT CRIMINALS. If you suspect any of us of committing any offence, summon us at police instead of waylaying us and behaving like criminals”.
Uganda’s security personnel are known to use Drones to carry out their arrests of targeted individuals mainly from Uganda’s leading opposition party NUP before speeding off with them to unknown places for interrogation.
Recently, Edward Ssebufu alias Eddie Mutwe who is Bobi Wine’s chief bodyguard was dropped off at Masaka court after more than a week following his abduction by Special Force’s Command (SFC) soldiers in Mukono and consequent holding in the first son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s basement for days as revealed by Muhoozi through his X account.
