The Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court has charged and remanded a former Flying Squad operative Ssemujju Abdul Noor alias Minana to become the fifth suspect in the 2015 murder of then Assistant DPP Joan Kagezi.
According to court, Ssemujju who was arrested last week at his home in Nakyesa Village, Galilaya Sub County in Kayunga district following renewed investigations into the killing had earlier been arrested in 2017 over the murder but was released.
During the Tuesday hearing, Ssemujju caused drama and brought a pause in court proceedings after he failed to stand in the dock and broke down before court complaining over hunger.
Semujju who visibly looked weak failed to stand straight and rather asked the magistrate to provide him with food since he had gone four days without food while on remand in prison in Luzira Prison.

“Your magistrate am asking for help, please help me, let them give me some little food, hunger is killing me, I have spent four days without eating, please give me some food” Semujju cried out to court.
Ssemujju refused to get up when the court guards tried to force him to stand so as the trial can go on as they assured him that he would eat upon being returned to prison after the court hearing which forced the Grade one Magistrate Daphine Ayebare to grant him his request and a plate of Katogo and soda were served to him.
After courts’ resumption, resident state attorney Richard Birivumbuka told court Ssemujju was feigning illness in order to delay trial.
Her Worship Ayebare ordered the Prison authorities to carry out a medical examination on Ssemujju before remanding him to Luzira until 8th July for mention of the case.
Ssemujju now joins the former Commandant of the Special investigations unit Nickson Agasirwe on the murder charge alongside John Kibuuka, John Masajjagge and Nasur Abudallah Mugonole.
