The Local Organising Committee of the Total Energies CAF AFCON PAMOJA 2027 Tournament, has revealed that works to correct snags identified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at the Hoima City Stadium are nearly 95 percent complete.
The chairperson communications and promotion sub- committee Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, while addressing media at the Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday, revealed that the main outstanding work remaining is the installation of the VVIP pedestrian bridge that connects from the VVIP parking lot to the VVIP Lounge.
Dr Mugimba also revealed that progress of work at the Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium (AKOS) is close to 80 percent completion, which is way ahead of schedule.
“The second physical inspection by CAF of the sports facilities for AFCON-2027; that is Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium (AKOS), Hoima City Stadium (HCS), and Mandela National Stadium (MNS) as well as the related nine out of the 12 Training Facilities at AKOS Annex TF, HCS Annex TF, MNS Annex TF, Makerere University TF, Kyambogo University TF, FUFA Kadiba TF, Hoima Booma Grounds TF, Pece Memorial Stadium TF, and Gulu University TF has just concluded” he said.
He added, “Overall, as a country we are on course to have all the three stadia – AKOS, HCS, and MNS ready by end of December 2026 and ten out of the twelve TFs. We expect FUFA Kadiba and Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School TFs to be ready by end of January 2027 given that they were handed over to the contractor later”.
Dr. Mugimba, further revealed that government has provided upto UGX 135.7 billion for the three three stadia and the nine additional Training Facitilies.
“Hoima Booma TF (UGX. 13.3 billion), Masindi King George Stadium TF (UGX. 20.2 billion), Sir Tito Winyi S. S. TF (UGX. 18.6 billion), Pece Memorial Stadium TF (UGX. 13.3 billion), Gulu University TF (UGX. 13.3 billion), Lira University TF (UGX.13.3 billion), FUFA Kadiba (UGX. 5.2 billion), Makerere University TF (UGX. 21.9 billion), and Kyambogo University TF (UGX. 16.5 billion)” he said.
He noted that re-modelling works at the Mandela National Stadium, have gained significant progress with the completion date of December 31st in sight.
“We applaud the UPDF Civil Engineering Brigade as the main contractor for the professionalism in execution of the MNS project but also the ongoing works at the additional nine Training facilities” he said.
