The titular head of Muslims in Uganda, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, has urged Members of the 12th parliament to legislate beyond party interests and focus on issues that unite Ugandans.
“Secondly, the purpose of being here is to tell you what you know, that you are our leaders. Those who voted you, those who didn’t vote for you, even those who voted against you” he said.
He added, “You are all leaders for all of us in Uganda and we look forward to seeing that you stand up to the mandate you stood for. The people will always be grateful if you stand up to what you stood for during the elections”.
Prince Nakibinge made the remarks while addressing members of the Uganda Parliamentary Muslim Forum, and other leaders he had hosted at Kibuli Mosque for Juma prayers.
Prince Nakibinge further urged the leaders to focus on issues that unite the muslim community, instead of delving over trivial issues that disunite faithful.
“There is a lot that unites us, there is a lot we have in common like education, development, health, let’s look at those and let’s not waste time on the divisions we have. There is no reason why we should waste our energies on those trivialities, but let’s utilise our energies for the good of our people” he said.
Prince Nakibinge also congratulated the newly elected leaders, urging them that while good performance would earn them individual recognition, poor performance could reflect negatively on the wider Muslim community.
