The Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded UBC TV journalist Frank Bwekumbule, alongside TikTokers Frank Kaggwa and Joseph Kikawa over alleged personation of Masaka City Woman MP-elect Justine Nameere Nsubuga.
The presiding magistrate Abdallah Kayiza, formally charged the trio with personation on Thursday, a charge they denied.
However the court deferred their bail application to a later date since the state prosecutor, Michael Wakosase, was absent from the court on official duties.
According to the prosecution, between March and April 2026, the accused allegedly used TikTok platforms to record, publish, and circulate videos containing malicious information while falsely presenting themselves as journalists.
Earlier in the week, the Regional police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye told media that the trio were arrested over alleged publication of false information targeting Woman MP-elect Justin Nameere.
According to Twaha, the suspects posted content claiming Nameere obtained coffee seedlings from farmers without payment, allegations police say were malicious and intended to tarnish her reputation
His worship Kayiza adjourned the case hearing and remanded the trio until May 7, 2026, when the case will come up for hearing.
