The President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS) Isaac Ssemakadde has issued a notice of intentional to sue Naguru based NBS Television in which he demands $3 million (UGX 10bn) in damages after the Next media Group news outlet ran an alleged defamatory news story recently.
According to the notice issued by his lawyers of Kyeyune Advocates and Solicitors, Ssemakadde accuses NBS of broadcasting false and damaging allegations linking him to a fraudulent gold scheme involving an American national in a story that was aired on 5th May.
The investigative story titled “Bang the Gold: Radical New Gold Scam” has since sparked public debate on the ULS President conduct of business which Ssemakadde is contending to contain inaccuracies that have impacted his reputation and emotional well being.
“This #NBSInvestigates report contains false, defamatory, and damaging allegations against our client, accusing him of conspiracy and fraud without substantiation,” reads part of the letter. “These actions have caused significant reputational harm, emotional distress, and financial loss.” the notice reads.
By the time of this publication, NBS had not yet replied to the Lawman’s intention to sue, we will keep you updated.
