Residents of Luwule Village – Sokolo Parish, Kasanje Town Council in Wakiso District have been left in shock, following the murder of the former area defence chairperson Masagazi Gerard by unknown assailants in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to Lule Herbert Kato, one of the first responders, Masagazi, who had been the defence chairperson for 25 years before being selected as the village secretary, was killed at around 1am on Saturday, during the village chairperson Mulagwe Joseph’s victory party following the swearing in ceremony on Friday.
“We are in great shock as residents in the village after unknown assailants attacked Masagazi and hit him on the head and killed him instantly at around 1 am” he said.
He added, “He has been the area defence for close to 25 years, but on Friday he swore in as the secretary for the disabled and was also the chairperson for the disabled, but at around 1am during the party, we were shocked to discover him murdered just behind the area where the party was”.
The village chairperson Mulagwe, said they were dismayed by Masagazi’s murder.
“Earlier on we went and watched the women’s football match, after which we proceeded to my victory party at around 8pm which attracted many people. He had sworn in as a secretary but he told people he would still assist the newly appointed defence chairperson to carry out his duties, attracting the crowd to make fun of him, he returned to his seat after ,and the party went on” he said.
Kasanje Police deployed a sniffer dog to trace for the suspected assailants but to no avail.
The police later on conveyed the deceased’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for poster mortem.
