The police has arrested the former director of defunct labor recruitment company Sky Pins, Asiimwe Christian, alias Don Chris, over allegedly obtaining money by false pretences and fraudulent labour recruitment.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal, confirmed Don Chris’s arrest from a bar at approximately 2am on Thursday at a bar in Zana, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
“It is alleged that the suspect obtained money from several individuals between 2022 to 2025 by falsely representing that he could secure them employment opportunities in countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai, among others” she said.
Kawala noted that the alleged job placements included positions such as waiters, cleaners and caregivers, among others.
“So far, statements have been recorded from over 500 alleged victims in connection with the matter” she said.
She added, “According to the victims, they allegedly paid amounts ranging from UGX 5,000,000 to UGX 10,000,000, depending on the type of job and the country of intended placement”.
Kawala noted that Don Chris is currently in police custody as investigations continue and will be presented before court in accordance with the law.
“We urge members of the public to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy and licensing status of labour recruitment companies and agents before making any payments or entering into recruitment arrangements” she said.
She further called on members of the public with relevant information regarding the case to report to the nearest police station.
