The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has begun the phased translocation of 200 Uganda kobs, from Murchison Falls National Park to Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve in the Karamoja sub region, with the animals being moved in phases.
On Thursday, UWA revealed that the first phase of the Kobs to Pian Upe was completed, with 37 Kobs safely moved to their new home.
The authority further revealed that the exercise will boost kob populations, expand their range and strengthen wildlife diversity in Pian Upe

UWA’s Assistant Commissioner Veterinary services-Dr. Patrick Atimnedi, said the intervention aims to expand the range of Uganda Kobs, diversify wildlife populations in Pian Upe, and strengthen tourism, with benefits expected to extend to communities neighbouring the reserve.
He noted that this is a significant milestone in strengthening wildlife populations across the country.
