The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), has summoned the management of Salt Television (Salt TV), to respond to alleged violations of the minimum broadcasting Standards and the Uganda Communications (Content) Regulations 2019, from an episode of it’s programme ‘Omusunsuzi’.
According to letter to the station dated August 12th, the UCC Executive Director Hon. Nyombi Thembo, directed Salt Tv’s managing director to provide written representations on the program aired on 17th June 2026 hosted by Mr. Charles Ssenkubuge and Ms. Jannifer Nakangubi alias Full Figure.
During the program, the presenters reportedly discussed “Operation Fika Salama”, whose content was alleged to have been malicious, defamatory and fraught with unconfirmed reporting contrary to the Minimum Broadcasting Standards.
The topic discussed during the show prompted a complaint from Miyingo Benson and Single Mothers Alliance Ltd through Kasiko Advocates.
“In accordance with sections 5(1)(j) and 45 of the Uganda Communications Act Cap 103, the Commission hereby DIRECTS Salt TV to provide written representations on the aforesaid program aired on the date specified above and explain whether the Minimum Broadcasting Standards were complied with” Nyombi said.
He revealed that the commission had carried out preliminary investigations into the complaints but wanted to get more information from the media house before reaching a decision.
“Salt TV is required to submit the representations accompanied by recordings of the program for the specified date not later than Thursday 20th August 2026 and thereafter come for a meeting on Friday 21st August 2026 at 11:00am at UCC House Bugolobi” he said.
Nyombi further warned Salt Tv, that if the Commission does not receive your written response or fail to attend the meeting on Friday, UCC shall proceed with its investigations and take appropriate regulatory measures against Salt TV in accordance with the Uganda Communications Act Cap 103 and the regulations made thereunder.
