The traffic police PRO SP Kananura Michael, has revealed that driver involved in the fatal crash along the Kampala- Entebbe Highway, that claimed the lives of two Next Media journalists and seriously injured another, has been arrested.
According to Kananura, the driver, identified as Kigozi John Baptist, was arrested in a joint inter-agency operation conducted last night.
“The suspect will be produced in court at the appropriate time to face the charges and allow justice to prevail” he said.
Kananura noted that further updates will be provided as the matter progresses.
The fatal crash that occured at at Namulanda along Entebbe Road, claimed the lives of Sanyunka Tv Producer Badru Kasirye, alongside his colleague Isaac Ndamagye, while entertainment presenter Brian “Makona” Ssemanda escaped with serious injuries and is still receiving treatment at Case Hospital in Kampala.
The crash that occurred at around 2am, on August 7th, involved motor vehicles UA 779DE, Toyota Allex, and UAS 976W, Toyota Hilux.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hilux, registration number UAS 976W, which was travelling from Entebbe towards Kampala, allegedly lost control and drifted into the opposite lane while approaching the Stabex area at Namulanda.
The vehicle subsequently collided head-on with the oncoming Toyota Allex, registration number UA 779DE.
