19 days after his seizure by heavily armed plain clothed men at a police roadblock, adjacent to Mpigi Central Police Station, former Butambala County MP and National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy president for Buganda, Muwanga Kivumbi has been dumped at Natete Police Station.
According to sources, Kivumbi was dumped at the police station on Wednesday morning by unknown security operatives.
The NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya in a post via his X handle confirmed Kivumbi’s resurfacing since his disappearance by armed security personnel on July 9th.
“While we were at the High Court to follow up his Habeas Corpus application, we were informed that Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi was dumped this morning at Nateete Police. On reaching there, we’ve been informed he’s being taken to court in Butambala, and haven’t gotten the opportunity to see him yet. After 19 days of incommunicado detention!!” he posted.
The party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi revealed that earlier on during the High court hearing, the Attorney General’s team had told court that police leadership had given them an indication that they had a lead as to where Kivumbi might be, and asked for Thursday morning to give a report.
“We have however learnt that Hon Kivumbi has been dumped at Natete police station, but on coming to Natete police, we’ve been told he’s been taken to Butambala. Although there’s indication that he’s still here at the police station” he posted on his X handle.
Kivumbi’s resurfacing comes days after Police denied holding him in an affidavit by ACP Tumugumye Godwin on behalf of the Inspector General Of Police (IGP) before the Civil Division of the High Court, dated 20th July 2026.
The UPDF also denied holding Kivumbi earlier on Wednesday through the director of civil affairs at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Lt Col Edgar Musasizi, in an affidavit dated July 24th 2026, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, admitted that he was aware Muwanga Kivumbi was granted bail by the High Court but denied that UPDF officers abducted Kivumbi.
