The Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s Court, has charged and remanded the chairperson of the Veterans Emyooga SACCO, Magombe Fred, and Ecrus Zziwa Moses, the secretary of the Welders Emyooga SACCO on charges of theft involving Emyooga funds.
The two suspects are accused of mismanaging and stealing over UGX 100 million intended to help members of Emyooga SACCOs in Entebbe Municipality.
According to prosecution, between 2020 and 2025, the accused, along with others still at large, allegedly diverted and mismanaged funds meant for several Emyooga SACCOs, including the Veterans, Welders, Tailors, and Boda Boda SACCOs.
This denied beneficiaries access to government funds meant to improve their livelihoods.
The duo’s arrest followed a presidential directive to the unit to look into the alleged mismanagement of over UGX 1 billion disbursed to Emyooga SACCOs in Entebbe Municipality under the Emyooga Program, a presidential initiative on wealth and job creation that provides seed capital to skilled, enterprise groups.
Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected.
The state house unit, working closely with Entebbe Police, is also working to recover the misappropriated funds.
They have been remanded until July 27th, when the case will come up again before the court for mention and bail application.
