The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, has revealed that the force is investigating an alleged suicide of an 18 year old senior four student of Naalya Secondary School, Bweyogerere Campus in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district.
Owoyesigyire noted the alleged suicide was reported to police on the evening of 8 July 2026, after the student whose identity is yet to be disclosed by authorities was found hanging inside a toilet block within the school’s boys’ section.
“Preliminary police findings indicate that the student was last seen entering the toilet block shortly before the body was discovered” he said.
Owoyesigyire revealed that scene of crime officers also recovered a handwritten note believed to have been written by the deceased.
“The note has been secured, and its contents are being examined as part of the investigation. Police extend condolences to the family, friends, and the entire school community during this difficult time. Investigations are ongoing and further details will be communicated once available” he said. Owoyesigyire said the team of investigating officers recorded statements from relevant witnesses, and conveyed the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a post mortem examination.
The student’s death follows a number of tragic student’s deaths at schools across the country in the past two years.
