The Vice President Maj Gen Jessica Alupo, has revealed that the missing Amuria District Woman MP Maggie Etilu, is set to be released from an undisclosed holding facility this week and is expected to appear in parliament.
“We all know that she is being detained, but the clarification I would like to give, in light of what the prime minister has said, is that she has met her family. Some of her family members, were permitted to have an interaction with her. She is safe, she is healthy, and she will be joining us soon.
Alupo said they have been in touch with the police on the side-lines to ensure the safety of the legislator.
“From the messages that we have received from law enforcement officers, the assurance is that she will be joining us any time this week. That’s the last message I got yesterday on the concern” she said.
Vice President Alupo’s revelation was in response to a point of concern raised by the Leader of Opposition if Parliament Joel Ssenyoyi.
The revelation comes days after the Uganda Police Force and the UPDF denied that she was under their detention.
Earlier on, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja urged legislators to await for a detailed report about the MP’s arrest and detention, by the minister of internal Affairs.
Etilu has not been seen in public since May 23, when she was reportedly picked up by security operatives in Nakasero, Kampala, shortly after visiting the residence of former speaker of parliament Anita Annet Among, who’s currently under corruption probe.
The legislator’s disappearance triggered growing concern among political leaders, family members and residents across the Teso sub-region, with calls mounting for security agencies to disclose her whereabouts.
