The remains of legendary kadongo Kamu singer Prince Paul Kafeero, has been exhumed in a bid to carry out DNA tests on over 20 children, who are fighting over the deceased’s properties.
According to the Minister for Local Government Hon. Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, the exhumation which was successfully carried out on Monday, will enable the family settle a prolonged dispute, which has remained unresolved for over 20 years.
Balaam revealed that the exhumation and sample collection exercise was conducted by a team of pathologists led by Assistant Inspector General of Police Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, in accordance with a recent court order and established forensic procedures.
“The Government Analytical Laboratory and the state-of-the-art Uganda Police Forensic Laboratory will now conduct the necessary scientific analysis to provide conclusive facts based on DNA evidence” he said.
The late kafeero, died from kidney failure and severe fever, with complications exacerbated by acute malaria and long-term alcohol-related health issues.
He passed away at Mulago Hospital on May 17, 2007, at the age of 36.
