Parliament has been reconvened for a plenary sitting this afternoon to vet Vice President Maj Gen Jessica Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who were reappointed to cabinet by President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday.
The clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige Kasaija, in a notice issued on Wednesday, said the Speaker Rt Hon Jacob Oboth Oboth, had recalled the House for the special sitting, to consider the approval of the duo.
“During the 1st Sitting of the 1st Meeting of the 1st Session of the 12th Parliament of Uganda held on Monday 25th May 2026, the Rt. Hon. Speaker adjourned the House to Thursday 4th June, 2026 at 2.00pm”he said.
He added, “However, I have been directed by the Rt. Hon. Speaker to inform you that Parliament will have Plenary Sitting on Thursday 28th May, 2026 at 2:00pm. The Order Paper is attached for your ease of reference”.
In line with the sitting the office of the clerk released an order paper, revealing that Legislators will consider motions seeking approval of the appointments of the Vice President and Prime Minister in accordance with Articles 108(2) and 108A(1) respectively of the Constitution.
Members of Parliament are also expected to designate members to standing committees (committee on appointments) in accordance with rule 165 of the rules of procedure.
Speaker Oboth Oboth had adjourned the House until June 4, 2026, when President Museveni is expected to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
However, Museveni’s Tuesday unveiling of a new Cabinet prompted Parliament to schedule a special sitting to handle key constitutional appointments before the formal opening of the legislative agenda.
