The National Unity Platform (NUP) has nominated Irene Nampala, a sister to the late legislator Hellen Nakimuli, as the party flag bearer in the By Election to fill her position set for June 25th.
Nampala, who was unveiled at the party headquarters in Makerere – Kavule on Thursday, scored 68.2 points to beat off competition from a dozen other aspirants.
Following Nakimuli’s demise in April, Nakimuli’s family fronted Nampala to contest for the seat, although she was still required to go through the same internal party procedures.
The Kalangala woman MP seat fell vacant following the untimely death of former MP Hellen Nakimuli, who passed away following an unsuccessful uterine fibroid removal operation at Alexandros Medical Center, last month.
Nakimuli had just been re-elected to the office in the January polls.
