The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has banned “Mukube Paver”, a trending song by new Tik Tok sensation Dynaso Wegoso.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, UCC noted that the ban follows a review of the song after it received numerous complaints regarding the content and influence of the song.
UCC noted that a review of the song proved that it explicitly and implicitly promotes, incites, and glorifies violence and aggressive conduct.
“The song has triggered dangerous imitation behaviour, including a growing trend of harmful “challenge” activities on platforms such as TikTok and other social media, where especially young people are mimicking and glorifying violent acts” the notice reads.
UCC warned that the continued dissemination of such content poses a risk to public safety, undermines societal values, and contravenes established broadcasting and content standards.
“In accordance with Sections 5(1)(b), (j), (x), 30, 32 and 46 of the Uganda Communications Act and Regulation 41 of the Uganda Communications (Content) Regulations 2019, the Commission hereby DIRECTS All broadcasters to immediately suspend the airing, broadcasting, and distribution of the song “Mukube Paver” on their platforms until further notice” UCC ordered.
The national media regulator further urged all broadcasters to immediately suspend any programs, discussions, or content that promote, aze, or reference the song.
The commission further warned online content creators and the general public from sharing or streaming the song.
“Any person who contravenes this directive commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding forty-eight (48) currency points, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two (2) years, or both” UCC warned.
