The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Kawala Rachael, has revealed that 111 suspected gang members have been arrested in the Kampala Metropolitan Area during security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in drug abuse, robbery, theft, and other unlawful activities.
According to Kawala, the operations carried out on 30th January and 01st February in the areas of Mukono district and Kampala city centre, led to the arrest of 111 suspects engaged in smoking Marijuana and robbing members of the public.
“On 01st February 2026 at about 2300hrs, a joint operation was carried out in Kigombya, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District. During the operation, a total of 11 suspects were arrested from a mapped-out black spot known for harbouring criminals who engage in smoking marijuana, waylaying, and robbing members of the public” she said.
Kawala added, “Similarly, on 30th January 2026 at about 1800hrs , Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), in conjunction with local leaders, conducted a disruptive operation codenamed “FUKUZA MAFISADI” in areas of Nakasero, Entebbe Road, Nasser Road, behind Church House, Railway Grounds, Punjani, the Electoral Commission area, and Mukwano”.
Kawala noted that the operation targeted youth who lie in wait at identified black spots and later engage in criminal acts such as snatching mobile phones and bags, as well as stealing vehicle parts from drivers held up in traffic jams.
She noted that all the suspects are currently in police custody pending prosecution.
