A clip that is going viral on social media of a Counter Terrorism (CT) Police Unit officer banking bundles of millions of Ugandan Shillings at a bank counter has left many netizens shocked.
In the video, the male officer is seen picking bundles of Ugandan Shillings from a National Resistance Movement (NRM) marked box and placing them in front of the bank teller’s window.
Besides the officer is a lady standing at the counter presumably giving orders to the teller on where to deposit the money.
According to the several reports, the banking was done at a Standard Chartered bank branch in Kampala City.
It’s no public secret that Uganda’s Police Officers are some of the least paid professionals in the country which has left many questioning where the low ranking officer got the wands of cash from.
In July last year, following a newly approved salary structure by the Ministry of Public Service, top-ranking officers in the Uganda Police Force and Uganda Prisons Service received a salary raise to earn UGX 12.75 million per month.
Under the 2025/26 financial year pay structure, all officers holding the ranks of Commissioner, Senior Commissioner, and Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) will receive a uniform monthly salary of UGX 12.75 million.
Government also raised salaries for lower-ranking personnel including Special Police Constables received a boost from UGX 375,200 to UGX 440,000, with other junior officers getting increments ranging between UGX 64,000 and UGX 79,000.
