The High Court has set 22nd December as the date to deliver it’s judgement in the election petition filed by Mathias Walukaga, over his disqualification by the Electoral Commission over academic qualification requirements.
On Tuesday, Walukaga, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Flag bearer for the Busiro East Race appeared in court with his lawyers, Alex Luganda and Elias Nalukoola, for hearing of the petition, however the two respondents in the petition, Electoral Commission and a registered voter, John Lubowa Kilimiro had not yet filed their responses by the time the matter came up for hearing.
This prompted Justice Simon Peter Kinobe to issue strict timelines directing all parties to file their submissions between December 17 and December 19.
Justice Kinobe noted that once the schedules are complied with, the court would deliver its ruling electronically on December 22nd.
“If you comply with the timelines given, the judgment will be delivered on Monday through the Electronic Court Case Management Information System,” Justice Kinobe ruled.
Walukaga petitioned the High Court last week after the Justice Simon Byabakama led EC disqualified Walukagga after he failed to meet the required academic requirements following a November 4th petition by incumbent and former NUP member Medard Seggona to the commission.
While filing the petition, he expressed confidence in the courts of law to deliver justice in the petition.
“It is deeply regrettable that the Electoral Commission issued a decision dated November 25, 2025, but only delivered it on December 9, 2025, fully aware that this is a matter in which time is of the essence” he said.
