Musician and Nakawa Division Mayor aspirant Ali Buken alias Nubian Li has been arrested shortly after his nomination for the post on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
In a video making rounds on social media, Nubian Li is seen being roughed up and pushed into a waiting police pick up truck after he exited the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda on Tuesday.
The leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi has condemned the arrest noting that it’s a sign of fear from the ruling government.
“A short while ago as he exited the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda after being nominated for the position of Nakawa Mayor, Ali Buken (Nubian Li) was pushed into a police truck and taken to an unknown location.
The fear of the regime is evident, let’s press on!” Ssenyonyi posted on hix X.
On Monday, security operatives abducted NUP Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, under similarly vague circumstances outside Kawempe Magistrate’s Court.
The whereabouts of the two opposition figures remain unknown with security keeping where they are being kept under tight lips.
