As investigations into the murder of David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Florence Mutaaga, 62 intensify, sources privy to the investigations have revealed that the police Criminal Investigation Department used sim card classification to track one of the suspects under custody.
The source noted that all the phones that were near or at the crime scene at the time the killer ended the lives of the Mutaaga’s at their home located at Plot 17, Research Road in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Division on July 7 were tracked by detectives from the CID, leading to the arrest of the suspect on Sunday.
On Monday, the police took of one of the held persons of interest back to the crime scene by the security personnel and spent several hours in the house.
A source told revealed to this publication that the suspects were picked up on Sunday evening by the Police Flying Squad Unit and transported to Entebbe Police Station to help with the investigations.
The Mutaaga’s had recently returned to Uganda after living in Switzerland for over 30 years and settled in their new home, their children Isabel Najitta Mutaaga and Mark Ernest Kabenge Mutaaga have declined to return back to the country until their parents killer is arrested for fear of their safety.
On July 7, the Mutaagas were stabbed to death by a suspect, who was captured on CCTV cameras at the home.
Police later released the suspect’s image and voice before issuing a Shs50m bounty to anyone with information to help them find the killers.
