Police in Mbale City have in custody a senior three student of Mbale High School over allegedly murdering his schoolmate, 19 year old Shafik Wasike last month.
The Elgon Region Police spokesperson, SP Rogers Taitika while addressing journalists over the weekend confirmed the arrest of Kairoki who has been on the run ever since he allegedly carried out the gruesome act on 28th July at Amber Stores in the Indian Quarters.
Kairoki and the deceased are said to got into a fight on their way home after school during which Kairoki reportedly used a sharp object to stab Wasike, who was later pronounced dead at Mbale Regional Referral hospital, where he was rushed by fellow schoolmates.
“The suspect had been hiding at Busolwe town council in Butaleja district where police picked him from after being tipped off by the community. The suspect is now in police custody at Mbale City Police and will be paraded before court to answer charges of murder” he said.
The late Shafik Wasike, a resident of Bujoloto in Nkoma Ward, Mbale City, was laid to rest at their ancestral home in Kabwangasi Town Council.
