Residents of Mpala Cell in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district have been left in shock after three siblings died in a house inferno in their house in the wee hours of Friday.
According to neighbors, the children’s mother Julie Nalubwama had locked the children inside the house and gone out for the night when the fire happened and returned only to find the house on fire with neighbors making efforts to put it out.
The fire which is said to have started from an electric short circuit around midnight claimed the lives of Ellah Namiiro, 12 years old, Amani Namulema, 5 years old and Namujju Tamale 3 years old who had been locked inside the house by their mother.
The Kampala metropolitan deputy Police PRO ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said the force has commenced investigations into the tragic incident.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the mother of the victims, Nalubwama Julie, had left them unattended, while the father, Kavuma Lenon, was away in Jinja for work” he said.
Owoyesigyire added, “The fire, which broke out at about 1:00 am, was reported to Police by the local LC1 Chairperson, the Fire and Rescue Services responded promptly and extinguished the blaze, two bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while the third was found inside, burnt beyond recognition”.
Owoyesigyire noted that the deceased’s bodies have been conveyed to the City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination as investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
