As news of the death of a man of US origin dying in Entebbe Central Police Station more than a week ago continues to make rounds, the U.S Mission in Uganda has confirmed that indeed Eric Nkusi was an American citizen.
According to Daily Monitor, a U.S. Mission Uganda Spokesperson noted that the mission was providing assistance to the deceased’s family but declined to divulge any further information on how far the investigations into his death were going on.
“We can confirm the death of a U.S. citizen in Entebbe on August 4, 2025. Out of respect for the privacy of the family and loved ones during this difficult time, we have no further comment at this time. We are providing consular assistance to the family” the spokesperson said.
Nkusi, an American citizen of Burundian origin died inside his cell about a week ago following his arrest over his alleged overstay in the country after his visa expired.
According to reliable sources, Nkusi, an alleged heroin addict started experiencing severe withdraw symptoms while in custody and requested to be provided with the substance since he would lose his life if didn’t get it.
The source noted that the officers at the desk declined Nkusi’s request and advised him to wait until he returns back to America to access the drug, however he was found dead in the cell the following day.
Nkusi’s body was then transferred to the City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination.
