The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has charged and remanded content creator Benson Muyingo, alias Benson Pro UG, over allegedly spreading malicious information about the Director General of Uganda’s External Security Organisation (ESO) Joseph Ocwet.
Court heard that Muyingo through his Tik Tok channel alleged that Ocwet’s was involved in a land-grabbing incident at Kasenyi -Bendegere, in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district.
However Muyingo was denied bail due to the absence of the State Attorney and was remanded to Luzira Prison until August 12.
The government has recently carried out arrests of different Tik Tokers allegedly over spreading malicious information about the first family, Speaker Anita Among among other high level individuals.
Muyingo now joins the list of Tik tokers in prison like Juma Musuuza alias Madubarah, who has been behind bars since last year over alleged hate speech and spreading malicious information about President Yoweri Museveni, first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Speaker Anita Among.
