Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, has been elected as the interim President of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party for a two-year term.
Lukwago’s election comes after veteran opposition politician, Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye who is currently on remand in Luzira prison on treason charges could not contest for any elective position within the party, as his role as Chair of the Council of Eminent Persons, the party’s highest advisory body, bars him from running for office.
The elections were held during the party’s first delegate’s conference on Tuesday at the party’s headquarters in Kampala.

Among others voted for the party’s elective post include Buikwe South MP Lulume Bayiga, who recently defected from the Democratic Party (DP), has been elected to deputise Lukwago in the Buganda region while Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has been elected the party’s Secretary General.
The team is expected to lead efforts to strengthen the party’s presence nationwide and push for meaningful political reforms.
