Police has arrested two youth activists who have this afternoon protested the continued degradation of Lwera wetland along the Kampala- Masaka High way through illegal sand mining and large scale rice farming by investors.
The duo belonging to Weka Afri Sustainable Biodiversity and Food Security Foundation were arrested as they protested in front of National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) offices on Jinja Road, Kampala as part of the ‘Save Lwera’ campaign.
The two activists are part of the ‘Save Lwera’ campaign, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the ongoing degradation of the Lwera wetland by business entities allegedly backed by government bodies.
By the time of this publication, police had not yet issued a statement on the charges they had placed against the detained activists.
