The Minister of State for Education and Sports, Hon Peter Ogwang has revealed that the ministry is set to partner with the Presidential CEO Forum to turn the Presidential CEO run, into an annual event in order to support charitable causes, following the successful second edition which attracted hundreds of runners in Entebbe over the weekend.

“As government and ministry of education and sports, we are fully committed to our education program, but we also thank the social corporate responsibility from most of the CEO’s who come to supplement on what government is doing” he said.

He added, “With effect of next year, I have talked to the organisers to specifically have time and I chair a meeting between National Council of Sports and the physical education and sports department in the ministry so that we can grow this” he said.

Mr Ogwang made the remarks at the second edition of the Presidential CEO 5km run, which attracted hundreds of runners themed “Saving a Life, Changing a Future”, whose proceeds are meant to improve the welfare of learners with special needs at the Entebbe Children’s Welfare Primary School, held at Coco Beach Club Entebbe on Sunday.

“We are all aware of the advantages of such activities, they help us in fighting a lot of non-communicable diseases, these kind of runs are always intended for a good cause, I have shared with the entire team, and all CEO’s to continue to support such initiatives which are intended to support good causes” he said.

Minister Ogwang who made a contribution of UGX 10 million on behalf to the ministry towards the run, further urged the general public to exercise regularly in order to improve their health.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Presidential CEO Forum, Ms Irene Birungi Mugisha said the run will contribute towards the education of special needs children.

“For us it’s a noble cause, education is an opportunity for all, we all need to learn, we all need to grow, but we all also need to reach our potential. That’s what we want for these kids, as you’ve seen, they were part of this run, they can now relate to when we were there” she said.

Entebbe Mayor Fabrice Rulinda, noted that the good cause will go a long way in enhancing the welfare of the children at the school.

“For Entebbe this is actually a lot, this doesn’t stop today, from now onwards, we will be doing exercise every Thursday evening, we are happy that we are able to give to the children of welfare all the proceeds that were collected today” he said.

The head teacher Entebbe Children’s Welfare Primary School, Ms Alice Basaaza said the school currently handles over 200 children with different special needs including autism, down syndrome, epilepsy, deaf and children with Spina bifida among others.
