The Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama, has revealed that the return of Kenyan Airline JamboJet to Uganda has underscored aviation’s role in promoting business and tourism in the region.
Speaking at the relaunch of JamboJet’s daily direct Nairobi–Entebbe flights which was received with a water gun salute at Entebbe International Airport on Thursday, Hon. Byamukama underscored the wider significance of the renewed connection.
“Aviation is not simply about transporting passengers; it connects businesses to markets, tourists to destinations, investors to opportunities and families to one another,” he said.
Hon. Byamukama noted that in order to further enhance connectivity with the rest of the world, Uganda has to date concluded Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASAs), with 64 countries.
“BASAs provide the legal framework for international air services between Uganda and partner states, including the designation of airlines, traffic rights and routes, thereby facilitating the expansion of international air connectivity” he said.

The Director General of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), Mr. Fred Bamwesigye, said Jambojet’s return is a strong vote of confidence in Uganda’s aviation sector.
“The return to Entebbe International Airport is a clear vote of confidence in Uganda’s air transport system and demonstrates the growth of the aviation industry in the region,” he said.
Mr Bamwesigye commended Uganda’s safety and security record in the aviation industry and called on Jambo Jet and all operators at Entebbe to remain firmly committed to meeting strict safety and security protocols, and delivering highly efficient services to the traveling public.
“Let me use this opportunity to remind industry stakeholders that on the global scene, Uganda regained a seat on the ICAO Council last year. This is important because it gives Uganda a stronger voice in the global body responsible for setting international civil aviation standards and policies,” he said.
Jambo Jets’s Chief Finance Officer on behalf of the CEO Mr. Karanja Ndegwa, revealed that the airline launched with one daily flight, indicating that frequencies could increase as demand grows.
“First launched on the route in 2018, Jambojet returns with a strengthened network and a clear proposition: affordable fares, direct connectivity and reliable service for travellers moving between Uganda and Kenya” he said,
Mr. Karanja also highlighted the airline’s low-cost proposition and focus on reliable, direct travel.
Jambojet’s return also makes it the 21st international air operator at Entebbe, further expanding passenger choice and contributing to the continued growth of Uganda’s international air transport sector.
