Residents of Nyanza Cell, Oleba Town Council in Maracha District were left in shock on Saturday morning after a family of six, including four children, were killed after lightning struck their home during a heavy downpour.
Robert Angupi, the Oleba Town Council LCIII Chairperson said the incident occurred at around 5:00am, when lightening ignited a fire that razed down the grass thatched home.
The victims have been identified as 37-year-old head of the household Amandu Geoffrey, his wife Enyaru Harriet, 31, and their four children: Desire Patience (9), Lekuru Jovia (7), Ayikoru Blessing (5), and one-year-old Martha Gelida.
The Maracha District Police Commander Mr Taban Swaib confirmed the incident, noting that police detectives and surgeons were dispatched to the scene of the incidence.
By mid-morning on Saturday, the bodies of the deceased were still at the family home as authorities carried out the necessary procedures before they could be taken for post-mortem and burial arrangements.
