The former Butambala County MP and National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy president for Buganda, Muwanga Kivumbi, has been seized by security personnel on his way to Kampala, hours after the International Crimes Division (ICD) of the High Court granted him bail on terrorism charges.
Kivumbi’s seizure has been announced by the Leader of opposition in Parliament and National Unity Platform (NUP) Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi on his X account.
“We’ve just learnt that on his way back to Kampala from Butambala a short while ago, Hon Muwanga Kivumbi’s car was stopped at a military roadblock in Mpigi, and armed men moving in a drone have taken him away to an unknown location!” he posted.
On Thursday, the ICD presiding Judge, Justice Suzan Okalany, granted Kivumbi a cash bail of UGX 10 million, while his 17 co accused were each granted bail on a cash bail of UGX 1 million, after spending 169 days on remand.
However court denied bail to six other co accused, after court found that they had failed to present substantial sureties and their bail application was deferred.
By the time of this publication, security authorities hadn’t yet released an official statement on Kivumbi’s seizure.
