Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, has praised President Yoweri Museveni, following his order to release her from house arrest after several months.
“I take this opportunity to thank the Almighty God for the gift of life and freedom. My profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellency, President @KagutaMuseveni, for his unmatched parental grace and decision to grant me mercy” she posted on her x handle.
Among’s release from house arrest was revealed by the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday, who noted that President Museveni had directed him to release her.
In a follow up post, she also thanked Muhoozi for the professionalism he has displayed throughout her corruption probe, and revealed that she is ready to continue serving her Bukedea constituents after her the release.
“I also extend my gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. @mkainerugaba, for his professionalism throughout this period. As the Woman MP for Bukedea, I look forward to continuing my work for my constituents and standing firm with our revolutionary leadership.” she said.
Among, has been under house arrest since May 16th, when security forces raided her Nakasero residence, marking the beginning of a probe into her over alleged corruption, accountability, illicit enrichment and money laundering.
Her release comes a fortnight after the anti-corruption court, committed the Director Communications at Parliament, Chris Obore and six other senior parliament officials to the high court to answer charges of embezzling public funds and money laundering.
The officials who were charged with embezzlement of more than UGX 30 billion; Mr. Adilo Daniel, Director Human Resource, Mr. Okema Leonard, Executive Secretary, Office of Speaker , Mr. Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer, Mr. Okwi Emmanuel Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer, Mr. Otebata Vincent, Capacity Development Officer, Mr. Murebe Methods, Chief Executive Officer, Uganda Parliamentary Cooperative Savings & Credit Society Ltd (SACCO).
