The embattled former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, is set to be arraigned before the anti-corruption court in Kampala, after prosecution completed preparations to prosecute her.
According to sources privy to the investigations, the file and charge sheet against Among were ready, with prosecution set to proceed and charge her formally in court on Tuesday.
Among has been under house arrest for close to two months, as investigations into her alleged corruption, accountability, illicit enrichment and money laundering by the inspectorate of government went on.
The former Speaker also withdrew from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament amid the investigations and was replaced by Jacob Oboth Oboth.
The development comes days after the Anti-Corruption Court charged and remanded the Director Communications at Parliament, Chris Obore and six other senior parliament officials with embezzlement public funds and money laundering.
The officials who were charged with embezzlement of more than UGX 31 billion; Mr. Adilo Daniel, Director Human Resource, Mr. Okema Leonard, Executive Secretary, Office of Speaker , Mr. Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer, Mr. Okwi Emmanuel Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer, Mr. Otebata Vincent, Capacity Development Officer, Mr. Murebe Methods, Chief Executive Officer, Uganda Parliamentary Cooperative Savings & Credit Society Ltd (SACCO).
According to the charge sheet, the suspects were charged with multiple counts of embezzlement contrary to Section 18(a) and (i) (iii) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Cap 116.
Sources orivy to the investigation reveal that Among will be formally charged tomorrow at 2pm.
